Chris Colfer (Kurt) From Glee?

In a Glee interview, they say Chis Colfer's character "Kurt" was based on his previous role in the Sound Of Music when he was 14. (They say he played "Kurt" in the sound of music.) I was surprised at this and checked it on the internet movie database but found that it was another guy who played Kurt on the Sound of Music. Then I checked Chris Colfer;s biography on the internet movie database and it says that he was in the sound of music and he wasn't! I am really confused, anybody can explain?
