Don't you think this sentence is a bit too harsh (see details) for a operating a vehicle while impaired?

Originally, it was an OWUI but my lawyer got it reduced. It is my first offense and I have a flawless driving record. When they originally pulled me over, they had an ambulance come and take me to the hospital because of a bad MRSA staph infection in my eye. They had me blow into something when I first got pulled over so I thought that was a breathlizer and then at the hospital, the officer asked for a blood test and I said "no" because I thought that I was already given a breathlizer. Well, it turns out that that wasn't an offical breathlizer. Because I refused a blood test, they got a warrant for one and they took blood anyways. Well, I lost my license FOR A YEAR FOR A FIRST OFFENSE OF DRIVING WHILE IMPAIRED simply for resfusing to give a blood test. Had I known this, I would've let them draw it. The normal time is for 3 months. I think this is ridiculous and I haven't even been sentenced yet. PLEASE DO NOT LECTURE ME! I know that drinking and driving is stupid. (Cont'd)
